(KMOV.com) -- A big change is coming for this year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Dogtown. This year’s organizers are asking visitors to leave alcoholic beverages on ice at home.
Dogtown Parade organizers said five years ago they tried to ban all outside alcohol. They said they were worried about under-age and binge drinking, but they didn’t have enough money to enforce the rule.
This year with the help from community partners, off-duty police officers will make sure all coolers stay off the streets.
“We didn’t want to do this, no one wants to do this, but we were forced to because of what’s happened over the past few years,” said parade organizer Jim Mohan, “It’s getting out of hand and the public safety officials have warned us that if we don’t get a handle on it, we could have serious problems.”
The ban does not apply to anyone who lives inside the designated areas.
The Dogtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
