COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – With a number of cuts in the Collinsville School District, one elementary school could close.

A new proposal would close Twin Echo Elementary. The closure would save more than $300,000 this year. This is after lawmakers cut almost $2-million in funding to the district.

In past years, the district has absorbed the cuts thanks to budget surpluses.

“It’s like having a savings account at home. If you spend more than you take in, you use up your savings and then what do you have?” Robert Green, Collinsville Schools Superintendent stated. Green added that with the cuts from the state it will likely be one year before they have to make drastic cuts.

No decisions regarding cuts are expected to come immediately.
