BERKELEY, Mo. (KMOV) – A 10-year-old boy with autism was saved from a burning house in north St. Louis on Monday evening, according to Berkeley Police officials.

The boy was transported to an area hospital after a fire broke out in the 8200 block of Frost around 6 p.m.

Neighbors told News 4 that a woman ran out of the house looking for help as the boy was in a back room. Berkeley Police were not able to rescue the boy when they arrived on scene because of heavy smoke and fire.

Firefighters got to the scene and were able to get the boy out of the home, but he was not breathing.  He was revived as he was being rushed to the hospital.

The boy is in critical condition, but is stable.

The fire has been ruled an accident.
