MADISON COUNTY, Il. (KMOV.com) – A 21-year-old Alorton resident was sentenced to 27 years in prison after he was found guilty on three counts stemming from an armed robbery incident.
Henry Chambers was accused of robbing a man and attempting to rob another while armed with a handgun along with two other accomplices in November of 2010. The three men then fled the scene in a vehicle believed to have been stolen in Granite City and led police on a high-speed pursuit for several miles.
At one point, the speed of the chase exceeded 95 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone before the vehicle ultimately crashed while attempting to get on Interstate 55/70. Chambers fled but was later caught hiding in a portable toilet at the Pilot Truck Station in Madison.
Chambers was convicted of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer on October 2. The sentences for each crime will run concurrent.
