Laurie Waters

News 4 Reporter

Laurie Waters joined KMOV Channel 4 in February 1989 as the primary Reporter for KMOV's news updates. Waters was part of the Channel 4 News team assigned to launch the first 24-Hour News concept at a broadcast television station in the U.S., providing "live" news and weather updates every hour, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The launch prompted stations to duplicate the concept for years to come. In the Spring of 1989, she was promoted to Nightside Reporter, and shortly thereafter she became the Weekend Anchor. Waters is currently Co-Anchor of "News 4 St. Louis" with Matt Sczesny at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and at 5:30 and 10:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Waters is involved with many organizations and has appeared as mistress of ceremonies and speaker for non-profit local organizations including the American Heart Association, Women's Safe House and Kids in the Middle.

Prior to joining KMOV Channel 4 News, Waters Co-anchored the Sunday evening news at KPLR-TV. Starting there in 1980, she worked her way up from the entertainment beat, leaving as a General Assignment Reporter and Weekend Co-Anchor. Waters has done a number of in-depth reports, including a half-hour special on domestic violence for which she won an Emmy.

Waters is an experienced St. Louis television professional, reporting on St. Louis events and issues for 20 years. From the Dioxin contamination and buyout of Times Beach to the Flood of '93 and the new millennium, she has covered the gamut.

Her hobbies include traveling, skiing and cooking. She is married and has three stepchildren. A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Waters attended the University of South Carolina and the College of Charleston.
