News 4 Meteorologist
I joined the 4 Warn Storm Team in October 2007 and provide the weather for News 4 Weekends. I provide Go Green reports on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the 6pm news. Also during the week, you may catch me filling in for Matt on Awake with News 4, reporting on a feature or medical story, or helping out during Storm Mode coverage tracking storms in the studio, on the web or live in the field. I earned the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society in 1999.
I grew up in Lexington, KY and became fascinated with severe weather at an early age. I can remember standing out on our covered front porch during storms and my parents having to drag me inside. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but I really wanted to see a tornado. I've done some tornado chasing and stood in the eye of a hurricane. I'm also fascinated by earthquakes and volcanoes. If I couldn't be a meteorologist, I'd probably be a seismologist or volcanologist.
I attended the University of Kentucky initially and thought I would be a doctor. After some soul searching I had an epiphany. Honesty, I don't know why I didn't come up with the idea to work in broadcast meteorology sooner, but up until then I always viewed my fascination as just that. I ended up transferring and earned my degree in Geoscience with an emphasis in meteorology from Mississippi State University. From there it was on to forecasting the weather at local television stations in Columbus, MS, Huntsville, AL, Louisville, KY, Cincinnati, OH and NBC WeatherPlus where I appeared on MSNBC, CNBC, Early Today, NBC Nightly News and The Today Show.
People always ask me where I'm heading next. Honestly, I'm really tired of moving and having to start all over again. It used to be fun but I've had my fill. I'm eager to get involved in the community and put down some roots. Hopefully you'll be seeing me here at KMOV for years to come.
I've really grown to love St. Louis. I've taken in all the touristy spots and continue to explore all the great shopping, dining and culture the city has to offer. Outside of that, traveling is my greatest passion. I love to thoroughly explore a new place and its culture, food, sights and sounds. When I do have vacation time, I often find myself in the Caribbean where I love to scuba dive and explore the hundreds of beautiful beaches.
