QUINCY, Ill. -- Boston Marathon runners and spectators from around Illinois are telling their stories about the explosions at the finish line.
Jeri Conboy of Quincy was three-tenths of a mile from the marathon finish Monday when she heard “two booms.” Meanwhile, her husband, Dan Conboy, frantically began trying to find her.
It took an hour for them to get in touch, and only then because Jeri was able to send a text to her husband from a kind stranger’s cellphone.
McHenry resident Gregg Sierminski spent 90 minutes trying to find his daughter, Rachel, who finished the raced a half hour before the blasts. He says marathon officials help him and his wife track down their daughter. He praises race officials and emergency workers for staying calm amid the chaos.
