(KMOV.com) -- This week’s high winds caused damage in many places, scattering debris everywhere, including some debris that came off of a new cell phone tower that has residents concerned in St. Peters.
The cell phone tower is made to look like a tree and resident Shirley Michaels is concerned with how close a new 90 feet tower is to her home, only a few dozen feet away. Michaels believes the flying debris is a safety concern.
“Every time there is a storm,” Michaels said, “I’m going to be worried about it.”
Michaels says she and other residents in the neighborhood off Jungermann Road fought the cell phone tower project since May 2013. They said after they lost the fight, the tower went up a week ago.
Video taken by resident Jeff Becker shows two large pieces of the tower falling off after Thursday’s strong winds.
St. Peters officials said structural concerns will have to be addressed by the company who built the tower, St. Charles Tower. The project manager with St. Charles Tower said he was not aware part of the tower fell. He also said the tower is still under construction which could have also caused part of it to fall.
Officials told News 4 the tower meets engineering codes, but both St. Charles Tower and St. Peters City say they will look into the issue.
