(KMOV) – The cities of St. Peters and St. Charles are asking residents to conserve water beginning Monday as crews repair a leaking water main.

The water conservation notice will be put in effect as the cities’ secondary water supply line from St. Louis is shut off.

Officials say repairs are expected to be completed within two days. Another day will be needed to refill the water main line and test the water quality before the line is put back into service.

Residents are asked to refrain from using water for non-essential purposes, like watering the lawn, filling the pool and washing the car.

The conservation order does not apply to Missouri-American water customers.
