(KMOV.com) – Two former St. Charles County residents were in the middle of a national story Friday after two Boston bombing suspects ended up in a shootout with police on their front lawn.

Stephen and Emily McAlpin were in their home in Watertown when a firefight broke out between Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev and pursuing officers.

Several bullets hit the home, and a number actually penetrated the house. The gun battle injured Tamerlan, who later died from his wounds.

The McAlpins moved to Watertown about a year ago from Boston. The couple had moved to Boston from Liberty, Missouri to attend seminary.

According to Stephen’s mother Nannell, the couple moved to Watertown in search of a safer environment.

Watch the video to hear their first-person account of the gunfight that brought the FBI to their doorstep.
