(KMOV) -- Several car dealerships in St. Peters are banning together to fight a proposal for one-way traffic on Interstate 70’s outer roads, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The 11 dealerships claim it would hurt business because customers would pick a dealership down the road with easy highway access.

The dealerships have voiced concerns to the city of St. Peters, St. Charles County and the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The plan is to get rid of seven traffic signals on the outer roads between Mid Rivers Mall and Cave Springs. It will essentially make them one-way streets, with the north outer road one-way headed west and one-way to the east on the south side.

Officials say the proposal will alleviate congestion on outer roads and interchanges
