(KMOV) – Authorities have identified two men who were killed in a head-on collision in Wentzville Monday night.

Missouri Highway Patrol officials said Roger Peek, 52, and Eugene Haggard, 39, were killed in the wreck on northbound Highway 61 just north of Interstate 70 around 4 p.m.

Police said Peek was driving a green car south on the highway when he crossed the center lane and struck a pickup truck driven by Haggard.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities were investigating what caused Peek to lose control of the car. Sgt. Terry Potter of the Missouri Highway Patrol said neither driver was wearing a seat belt.

Highway 61 was closed for about four hours, causing a major traffic backup onto Interstate 64 and 70. All lanes have since reopened.
