(KMOV) – An adult and two children were killed in a wreck that forced a portion of Interstate 55 to shut down in Macoupin County on Friday, according to the county coroner.
Authorities say five people were in a vehicle when it crashed on northbound I-55 near Mt. Olive and Litchfield around 6:30 a.m.
According to ISP, an adult, child and infant were pronounced dead at the scene. One of the other victims was airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Another male occupant was transported to St. Francis Hospital.

Traffic was being rerouted off the highway at mile marker 44 and back onto the interstate at mile marker 52.
