St. Louis, Mo. (KMOV) – One person was taken to a hospital after a plane crashed and caught fire closing Route 364 near the Veterans Bridge in west St. Louis County early Thursday morning.

Around 5:00 a.m. a single aircraft crashed just east of the Veterans Bridge, roughly 15 feet from the roadway, near the Paige Extension closing both directions of the roadway. 

Authorities said the plane was fully engulfed in flames following the crash. 

According to authorities, the pilot was able to make it out of the downed plane and call dispatch. Authorities said no one else was inside the aircraft at the time of the incident. 

An officer on the scene said one occupant of the plane was transported to the hospital.

Crews opened the westbound lanes of Route 364 about 30 minutes following the crash.

No other details were immediately available.
