(KMOV.com) – Police said a suspect was injured after an officer involved shooting in north St. Louis Wednesday night.

Authorities said the shooting occurred when they responded to a robbery in the 4900 block of Natural Bridge around 8:15 p.m.

According to police, a male suspect, 21, robbed a McDonald's restaurant at the intersection of Natural Bridge and Kingshighway. Police said the suspect fled when they arrived and ran towards a getaway car that drove away without him. Police said the suspect then pointed a gun towards pursuing officers before the officers fired shots, hitting the suspect several times.

Police said a second suspect was driving the getaway car. According to police, that vehicle crashed nearby on Arlington Avenue. Authorities said the driver was not hurt but was taken into custody.

Police said they retrieved a backpack from the first suspect that contained gun magazines and money from the McDonald's location that was robbed.

Authorities said the wounded culprit was taken to a hospital and is expected to be okay.
