(KMOV)--- A line of storms brought a heavy downpour of rain and impacted the St. Louis area Monday afternoon.

A line of storms moved across the area beginning at 2 p.m. and brought heavy rain and strong winds. The storm's intensity picked up shortly after 3 p.m.

Several cars were stranded along Kingshighway in south St. Louis after flash flooding hit the area. Witnesses say the water came up their chests with others having to be rescued by passing motorists.

Cars parked in the Ackerman Toyota dealership lot were seen filling with water in the area of Kingshighway and Chipppewa after they were hit with about three feet of rain in a short period of time.

The flooding near Kingshighway and Chippewa receded, but there may be nearby pockets of flooded roads. In some spots 2" to 3" of rain fell in less than 2 hours.

News 4 has several reports of strong winds in Madison County that have knocked down fences and tree limbs.
