ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Rick Majerus, former men's basketball coach at Saint Louis University, died Saturday at age 64.

USA TODAY reports Majerus' girlfriend, Angie Kvidera, confirmed his death today in Los Angeles.

Over the course of 25 years, Majerus led Marquette, Ball State, Utah and SLU to a career 517-215 record. Last season, Majerus guided the Billikens to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the school’s first NCAA appearance since 2000.

In August, Majerus announced he would miss the 2012-2013 season to undergo evaluation and treatment in California for a serious heart condition. At the time, Majerus requested additional information regarding his health be kept private.

A colorful and well-respected coach, Majerus led the Billikens to a 95-69 record in five years.

The news of Majerus' passing first broke as a Tweet from Porter Moser, current Loyola basketball coach and former assistant at SLU.

"RIP to my friend and mentor Coach Majerus," Moser wrote. "I learned so much about the game and life. We lost a One of the best! My heart is heavy tonight."
