(KMOV) – Three people died after they were ejected from their car during a police pursuit on northbound Interstate 55 near the Imperial Main exit ramp on Sunday.
Police say an officer pulled the suspect’s car over for speeding around 5:15 p.m. But when the officer approached the car, the suspect fled.
A high-speed pursuit started and officers put down police spikes after about 20 miles. The driver of the suspects’ vehicle left the road trying to avoid the spikes and overcorrected. The vehicle then flipped, ejecting three of the four occupants.
The occupants, identified as 18-year-old Jeromy Goode, 19-year-old Leon Haywood and 21-year-old Lavoy Steed, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The four passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Police have not said why the suspects fled in the first place.
The investigation is ongoing.
