CHICAGO (AP) -- Call it an anatomical stakeout.
Authorities recovered a diamond ring a Chicago man allegedly stole and swallowed by doing what parents do when kids swallow a crayon or penny: wait for it complete its journey through his body.
According to a Tuesday news release, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Wilfredo Gonzalez was arrested this week after he allegedly stole the ring from a Cicero woman's home where he was doing repair work.
The office says after the woman noticed her ring was gone, she told her husband, who confronted Gonzalez. Gonzalez denied taking the ring, but prosecutors say when he and the husband began fighting he swallowed it.
Police took him to the hospital, where an X-ray revealed the ring.
Then they waited to recover the evidence.
