A teen accused of carjacking a woman downtown on Tuesday and leading police on a chase that ended with a 5-vehicle crash in north St. Louis has been charged. Authorities said around 2:30 p.m. a male suspect approached a vehicle at 9th and Carr. The suspect indicated to the vehicle owner that he had a gun and demanded the vehicle. The suspect entered the vehicle and sped away. Two children who were occupants of one of the cars involved were injured in the accident, but no one was seriously hurt. Officers spotted the stolen vehicle and pursued the vehicle a short distance. Spike strips took out some of the van’s tires, slowing it down somewhat, but not enough to prevent the crash. Maurice Vaughn, 17, faces multiple charges including first degree robbery, second degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest. Vaughn is being held on $150,000 bond.
