Credit: AP
WASHINGTON (AP)-- Paul McCartney says being one of those getting this year's Kennedy Center award is "a huge honor." The veteran singer and songwriter spoke with reporters on his way into the hall where he received tributes from a number of fellow artists last night in Washington. He says because the award is the highest one can receive as an artist in the U.S. it's "just great to get it" -- and he said to be doing it with "such illustrious company" makes it even better. Honored along with McCartney were Oprah Winfrey, dancer Bill T. Jones, country star Merle Haggard and Broadway composer Jerry Herman.
