WASHINGTON (AP) -- Some good news on Aretha Franklin. And it comes from one of her good friends. Smokey Robinson says Franklin is doing better since her surgery last week -- and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon. Robinson spoke to The Associated Press on his way into the Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday night. He said he had just spoken to Franklin before walking the red carpet and she was doing well. He says he called her on the way to the Kennedy Center because it was the first time he had attended the event without his childhood friend being there. Smokey offered no details about why Franklin was hospitalized or what she had surgery for.
