NELLY FURTADO FOLLOWS HER OWN ADVICE

NEW YORK (AP) -- Nelly Furtado's sleek hair and the hoop earrings from the "I'm Like A Bird" video are one of the iconic images of her -- and she fought to have that. She says over the years she battled "many, MANY editors of magazines and art directors and stylists." In the beginning, the photos she shopped to record labels were taken at a photo booth at the mall, because she wanted to control her look. That's because she follows her own advice: stay true to who you are. It must have worked, because Furtado released "The Best of Nelly Furtado" less than a month ago.
