BLAKE EDWARDS - OBIT

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) -- When Blake Edwards died Wednesday night at age 88, he'd been working on two Broadway musicals. One was based on his "Pink Panther" movies. Those "Pink Panther" comedies were just one segment of Edwards' long career. He created the "Peter Gunn" TV series. He wrote, directed and produced and was involved with films as diverse as "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "The Days of Wine and Roses," "10," "The Great Race" and "Victor/Victoria." Edwards had his wife, Julie Andrews, do a topless scene in his film "S.O.B." That was a shocker for fans of "The Sound of Music" and "Mary Poppins." Blake Edwards got an honorary Oscar in 2004. He'll be remembered at a private memorial service. A public memorial will be scheduled in the new year.
