COMMON: HELPING LAUNCH THE SEASON

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Common has helped bring a bit of Christmas to the nation's capital. He joined with B.B. King and President Barack Obama at the annual tree-lighting ceremony on the Ellipse -- the grassy area right near the White House. The president was joined by first lady Michelle Obama, as well as his daughters Malia and Sasha and his mother-in-law, Marian Robinson. Other performers at the event included Sara Bareilles and Maroon 5.
