(KMOV.com) – One person died after a semi-truck caught fire in St. Genevieve County late Thursday night.
Missouri Department of Transportation officials said the truck was traveling on the interstate near mile marker 157 in Bloomsdale when the fire started around 11:25 p.m.
Missouri Highway Patrol officials told News 4 one person was killed. Additional details surrounding the victim’s death were not immediately available.
Both north and southbound lanes on the interstate were closed while HazMat crews worked to clean hazardous chemicals that spilled. The fire occurred on the Bloomsdale Bridge and MoDOT crews had to inspect it before the interstate could reopen.
Drivers traveling south were being detoured at Highway OO near mile marker 162. They were directed to get off at Highway 61, go through Bloomsdale, and get back on I-55 at Highway O.
Northbound drivers were detoured at Highway 0. They could get back on I-55 after taking Highway 0 to Highway 61, then Highway 00.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
