(KMOV.com) -- Celebrating its 27th year, the 2011 Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade brought families to downtown St. Louis to enjoy the sights, sounds and festivities that come along with the Thanksgiving day tradition.
The parade started at 8:45 a.m. from the corner of Washington Avenue and 4th Street in downtown St. Louis.
In addition to dozens of decorated floats and larger than life helium balloons, the parade featured marching bands from around the St. Louis area. Those bands faced off in the annual Battle of the Bands Contest. The Holiday Magic team, along with the Holiday Magic mascot, Snowflake, was also on hand to keep parade goers entertained.
The parade is always a popular destination for families in search of entertainment such as live music, dance performances and photo opportunities with the man himself, Santa Claus.
The annual Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade is hosted by Christmas in St. Louis along with presenting sponsor Ameren Missouri. The parade's charitable recipients are the Academy of St. Louis and the Miriam Foundation.
