(KMOV.com) -- A poor choice of words by a tea party member has resulted in a larger security detail for Senator Claire McCaskill.

At a rally in Springfield, Missouri last week, Scott Boston said, "We have to kill the Claire bear.  She walks around like she's some sort of rainbow brite care bear, but really, she's an evil monster."

That statement got the attention of U.S. capitol security.  Now, McCaskill has more protection at the capitol, more police patroling her Kirkwood home and more security at her public appearances.

Boston said he didn't mean his comment literally and told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, which covered the rally, he does not think anyone should actually harm the senator.

McCaskill has not commented on the statement.  So far, representatives from her Washington office have stayed silent on the issue.
