(KMOV.com) – The Missouri Legislature is considering a proposal that would require food stamp recipients to show a photo ID when using food stamp cards.
The proposal is an amendment to another bill that would actually place limits on how the food stamp cards (EBT) could be used out of state. Many proponents have said it is a way to cut down on fraud and abuse within the system.
The bill passed the Missouri House both in 2013 and this year. In 2013 the proposal died in the state Senate and there is a possibility it may not make it through the entire legislature in 2014 because the current legislative session ends Friday. One supporter told News 4 he is optimistic it will pass.
“There's still a possibility with two days left. I do know it’s easy to kill a bill over in the Senate and we'll have to see what happens this year," Rep. Keith English said. “If not, I will introduce again next year.”
