CHICAGO (AP) -- Republican candidate for governor Bill Brady wants to eliminate the cap on charter schools in Illinois.
The Bloomington state senator says that would help improve education in the state.
The number of charter schools is currently capped by state law at 120. More than half of those are in Chicago.
Charter schools are publicly funded but operate separately from traditional public schools. Critics say they take resources away from traditional public schools.
Brady is one of seven candidates seeking the Republican nomination. He visited a charter school on Chicago's West Side on Thursday.
