ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) -- Three Illinois Democrats running for the U.S. Senate are expressing deep doubts about sending more troops to Afghanistan. David Hoffman flatly says he opposes a massive expansion in Afghanistan. Rivals Cheryle Jackson and Jacob Meister weren't quite so firm in a candidate forum Sunday, but both say they have serious questions. Candidate Alexi Giannoulias (jeh-NOO'-lee-ehs) skipped the Rockford forum. The three candidates at the event also backed the proposal to house terrorism suspects in an unused Illinois prison. They accused Republicans of engaging in scare tactics by claiming the plan would make Illinois a terrorist target. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
