WARRENTON, Mo. (KMOV) – With Election Day just four days away, Todd Akin was back on the road Friday as he made stops in Warrenton and Fenton to make a final push in his goal to replace United States Senator Claire McCaskill.
Akin’s campaign is also spending $900,000 in TV ads over the next several days leading up to Tuesday.
A campaign spokesman says some of that money is coming from the state Republican Party. Akin says he’s also getting more support from national Republicans in the final days.
Akin was left to campaign without national party support after his “legitimate rape” comments in the summer.
The national Republican Party has still refused to support Akin, but support is coming in from national political action committees.
In Warrenton, Akin said he felt good about his campaign and is counting on his grassroots support in rural Missouri and his Congressional base in St Louis County on Election Day.
Democratic incumbent Senator Claire McCaskill was campaigning Friday in the Kansas City area.
