HOUSTON -- Former President George H.W. Bush's family said Thursday they are confident he will be out of intensive care very soon.
The former president is still in the ICU Unit at Methodist Hospital. He is alert and talking, but still has a fever and is in guarded condition.
The 88-year-old has been in the hospital for a little more than a month. Bush was first admitted to be treated for a cough related to bronchitis.
His son, Neil, and daughter, Dorothy, are by his side. A family spokesperson said Wednesday that former President George W. Bush is planning another visit, but no details have been released on when his visit will take place.
Jean Becker, Bush's chief of staff, sent out a note saying the former president's condition is not dire.
Becker said the former president would like to tell everyone, "Please put the harps back in the closet."
