CHICAGO (AP) — Despite his criticism of the GOP House leadership since being elected in 2010, Congressman Joe Walsh is getting help raising campaign funds from that leadership.
Walsh is expected to have a strong challenge from Democrat Tammy Duckworth for the redrawn 8th District seat.
Walsh says Texas Rep. Pete Sessions will take part in a fundraising breakfast set for May 3 in Elmhurst. Sessions heads the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee.
Duckworth is a former assistant federal Veterans Affairs secretary and is likely to get help from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Committee chairman New York Congressman Steve Israel says the Walsh-Duckworth matchup will likely be one of the most watched congressional races this fall because of the contrast between the two candidates.
Walsh has been consistently critical of President Obama's policies.
