DECATUR, Ill. (AP) — Decatur Mayor Mike McElroy says he's decided to run for the Illinois state Senate.
The (Decatur) Herald & Review (http://bit.ly/oH0f14 ) reports that the Republican on Wednesday confirmed his candidacy for the 48th District seat, which includes downtown Decatur and downtown Springfield. The district also stretches to parts of Macoupin and Madison counties.
McElroy won re-election this year, and his mayoral term ends in 2015.
As mayor, McElroy has presided over a number of changes in city government including efforts to save money by reducing staff while foregoing tax increases.
