BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (AP) -- A suburban Kansas City teenager has been charged with trying to rob an ice cream truck driver who was wounded by pellets from a BB gun.
Jackson County prosecutors announced the felony charge of attempted robbery against a 17-year-old from Blue Springs on Friday.
The shooting Tuesday afternoon startled residents of a quiet subdivision. Witnesses reported the ice cream truck was in a cul-de-sac when several young men approached demanding money from the 47-year-old driver. He was shot but managed to drive a couple of blocks looking for help.
Investigators said the young men were in a park shooting a BB gun they had just bought when they saw the ice cream truck and decided to rob it.
The driver was treated for wounds to his head, neck and arm.
