ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) - A woman is in critical condition after being set on fire Monday night following a bizarre series of events.

Police tell News 4 the woman and a man she lives with in North St. Louis in the 5200 block of Beacon had been drinking all day.

The two got into an argument over a gas can while the man was mowing the lawn, and gas splashed on her. They later resolved their fight.

Several minutes later, woman lit a cigarette- causing the gas to ignite, engufling her in flames.

She has second and third degree burns on her face and chest and is in the hospital in critical condition.

The man had been released from jail Monday morning and faces a first degree assault charge as the investigation is ongoing.
