NEW YORK (AP) -- Call them the gadget cops. The NYPD is sending undercover officers into the subways, armed with iPhones and other high-priced, high-tech gizmos. The officers are decoys, after thieves who are snatching gadgets like iPhones and Kindles. Officials report thefts in the New York subways are up by nearly a-quarter compared to last year. But police officials note people are carrying more electronic devices these days. Detectives are also going after the fences who sell stolen electronics.
