SUFFOLK, Va (AP) — A Suffolk fifth grader is in hot water after bringing marijuana to school to keep his dad from smoking it.
Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink tells WAVY-TV officers responded to Driver Elementary on Tuesday for a report of a student in possession of marijuana.
Klink says the student told officers he found the marijuana in his father’s truck and that he took it to school to show his teacher he wanted dad to stop using the drug.
Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw says the student was recommended for expulsion, based on the school’s drug policy. An expulsion hearing will be held within 10 days.
