(KMOV) -- Virginia tried fencing for the first time. The Olympic sport of fencing is fast and athletic, a far cry from the choreographed bouts you see on film or on the stage.

It's two fencers performing an intense dance on a 6-foot-by-40-foot strip. The movement is so fast that in modern fencing the touches are scored electrically - more like Star Wars than Errol Flynn.

Fencing has been an Olympic sport since the modern Olympics started in 1896 and is one of 4 sports to be contested in every modern Olympics.
