Thanksgiving? Christmas is what's on the mind of many shoppers -- or Christmas shopping, that is.

Before the impending shopping spree of the year, check out everything you need to know about Black Friday.

We will be updating this list as we learn of store hours and opening times on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, and attaching links to their official Black Friday ads as we receive them.

Belk Black Friday Ad

Belk will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and close at 10 p.m. on Friday. The first 250 customers at each store for the Thanksgiving opening will get a free gift card valued between $5 and $1,000.

Best Buy Stores - Opens at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving and remains open through 10 p.m. Friday. Click here for the Black Friday specials.

Guitar CenterOpens at 6 a.m. on Black Friday and closes at midnight that night.

J.C. Penney - Most of the chain's 1,100 stores will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and will be open 25 hours straight, closing at 9 p.m. Friday.

Kohl's - Open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving until midnight on Saturday.

Macy's - Open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving until about 10 p.m. on Friday at most stores

Sears - Open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving until 10 p.m. on Friday.

Kmart - Open at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving until 11 p.m. on Friday.

Sports Authority - Stores will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Staples - Stores will open 8 p.m. Thanksgiving Day and close at midnight; Doors will reopen at 6 a.m. on Friday.

Target - Stores open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving, an hour earlier than last year, and will remain open throughout the night, closing at 11 p.m. on Friday. Preview Target's Black Friday ad here.

Toys R Us - Stores open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, featuring more than 300 "doorbuster" specials available through 9 p.m. (while supplies last; no rainchecks). Click for highlights of Black Friday specials.


Wal-Mart - Open 24 hours at most stores. Doorbuster deals at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday and 8 a.m. on Friday.

Keep in mind:

  • Most advisors say be early. Not all of us want to shop on Thanksgiving, but the early bird gets the worm. Walmart's even offering rain checks on certain doorbuster deals if the store sells out of an item within an hour.
