(KMOV) – CNN’s Wolf Blitzer was interviewing a survivor of the Moore, Oklahoma tornado when he asked a question he probably regrets.

Rebecca Vitsmun said she and her 19-month-old son escaped from their house minutes before the EF-5 tornado tore through the town.

“We're happy you're here. You guys did a great job,” Blitzer said to Vitsmun. “You’ve gotta thank the Lord, right? Do you thank the Lord for that split-second decision?”

After a moment of hesitation, Vitsmun smiled.

“I’m actually an atheist,” she said laughing awkwardly.

“You are. All right,” Blitzer said. “But you made the right call.”

“We are here, and I don’t blame anyone for thanking the Lord,” she replied.
