BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -- A 17-year-old swimming instructor and lifeguard is accused of sexually abusing two children under the age of 8 years old.
Mitchell Kelly of Beaverton was arrested Monday and booked in the Washington County Jail.
Deputies said they were contacted about Kelly by representatives of the Sunset Athletic Club on Northwest Cornell Road on June 23.
There had been a complaint about inappropriate sexual contact involving two young girls.
Investigators said Kelly had been a swimming instructor at the club since October 2013. His main responsibilities were to teach children how to swim and to provide lifeguard services at the pool.
He would teach individual and group lessons, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said Kelly is accused of inappropriately touching two swim students under the age of 8 years old in a secluded room following a swimming lesson.
Child abuse detectives processed evidence and interviewed a number of people who had knowledge of the incident.
Kelly was arraigned in adult court on Measure 11 charges of first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct.
Further charges could be forthcoming after the case is presented to a Washington County grand jury.
Kelly was transferred after his arraignment to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center in Portland. His bail is $250,000.
Kelly also worked at the Beaverton Swim Center on Northwest Science Park Road for eight months prior to his employment at the Sunset Athletic Club.
The Sunset Athletic Club posted a statement on its website Wednesday saying they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
"Sunset Athletic Club has had no prior complaints about Mitchell Kelly during his employment," the statement reads. "We will provide information as requested in the course of the justice process."
Detectives fear there may be additional victims, due to Kelly working so closely with children.
Anyone with information about this case or possible unreported crimes involving Kelly is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 503-846-2500.
