HARVEY, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities say a fourth child has been freed by two suspects who barricaded themselves in a house in the southern Chicago suburb of Harvey after a foiled burglary.
City of Harvey spokesman Sean Howard says the newly released child says in addition to the two remaining children, two adults are being held hostage.
Initially, Harvey police said five children and one adult were taken captive Tuesday by the suspects. Questioning of one of the three children previously released revealed there were six children being held. Howard now says two adults and two children remain hostage.
Howard would not say whether the suspects know the hostages.
Two police officers were wounded in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect. One was hospitalized and the other was treated for a graze wound.
