(KMOV.com) -- A Missouri native is one of two astronauts making critical repairs to the International Space Station Saturday.

Mike Hopkins is a University of Illinois graduate. Hopkins and Rick Mastracchio began the first of two spacewalks Saturday morning working to replace an ammonia pump that contains a bad valve.

The break crippled the ISS’s cooling system for almost two weeks. A second spacewalk is scheduled for Monday.
