HOUSTON—A good Samaritan was shot Friday morning while rushing to help a woman who was being attacked by her estranged husband at a strip center in northwest Harris County, according to Precinct 4 deputy constables.

A woman who worked at a nail salon in the 3000 block of FM 1960 at Aldine Westfield saw her estranged husband pull up in a silver pickup truck. Frightened, she immediately locked the front door. That is when the husband began shooting, shattering the window to the nail salon, deputies said.

He was dragging his wife out of the salon when two good Samaritans who were at the barber shop next door rushed in and tackled him. One of the men was shot and rushed to Ben Taub Hospital. He is expected to survive.

A witness leaving nearby Gold’s Gym witnessed the chaos.

“The guy who did the shooting was struggling trying to get up because he knew people were dialing 911. I was trying to call police, I was on the phone with emergency response,” the witness said. “And he was struggling trying to get up and the guy held him down even more and the next thing you know, I heard sirens and the police came.”

The suspect was immediately taken into custody. Deputies said he also had a rifle in his pickup.
