SOUTHOLD, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a high school student sitting in a Long Island classroom was grazed in the head when a bullet went through a window.
Southold Town Police say the 18-year-old student suffered minimal injuries in the shooting at Mattituck High School just before 2 p.m. Thursday.
Police Chief Carlisle Cochran Jr. says a 28-year-old Mattituck man, who lives near the school, was taken into custody for questioning. Police have not released the man's identity, nor has he been charged with anything.
Cochran says officers found a small-caliber round inside the classroom. No weapon was recovered.
The high school is in a rural area on Long Island's eastern end, about 75 miles from New York City.
