LAS VEGAS (FOX5) - Two on-duty Las Vegas Metro officers at lunch were shot and killed in an ambush by a man and woman who proceeded to kill a bystander inside a Walmart, police said Sunday.

The two armed suspects later died in an apparent suicide pact, according to police.

Las Vegas Metro police said the incident happened in a shopping center in the 300 block of North Nellis Boulevard, near Stewart Avenue, just before 11:30 a.m.

According to Metro Sheriff Doug Gillespie, a man and a woman walked into the Cici's Pizza restaurant and shot two Metro officers who were eating lunch.

Gillespie identified the two officers as Officer Igor Soldo, 31, and Officer Alyn Beck, 41. Gillespie noted one of the officers was able to return fire in the incident.

The suspects took the wounded officers' weapons and ammunition with them before fleeing, Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill added.

Citing witnesses, McMahill stated the suspects shouted, "Tell the police the revolution has begun," as they exited the eatery. Metro Sheriff Doug Gillespie later said the proclamation was not confirmed.

Gillespie said the pair then ran over to a nearby Walmart in the same shopping center, where the suspects shot and killed a customer at the front entrance of the store.

The shooting prompted SWAT officers to be called as the suspects moved to the back of the store.

According to Gillespie, arriving officers exchanged fire with the two suspects inside the Walmart. Police said another round of shots were heard in the store that appeared to result in the suspects' deaths.

Gillespie said the female suspect appeared to have shot the other male suspect before turning a weapon on herself.

The two wounded officers were rushed to University Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.

Authorities did not immediately identify the two suspects and the bystander who was shot at the Walmart. Gillespie said officers will be doubling their patrols while they investigate whether a group was responsible for the attack.

In a briefing with media late Sunday afternoon, Gillespie's tone was solemn as he delivered details of the shooting.

"My officers were simply having lunch," the sheriff told reporters.

Gillespie then concluded the briefing addressing his officers.

"It's a tragic day. It's a very, very difficult day," a shaken Gillespie said. "But, we still have a community to police. We still have a community to protect ... It is a tragic day in the Las Vegas Valley."

According to police, Beck and Soldo were assigned to the Patrol Division, Northeast Area Command. Beck joined Metro in 2001 while Soldo was hired with the department in 2006.

Beck left behind a wife and three children. Soldo is survived by a wife and a baby, police said.

Metro scheduled a news conference for 10 a.m. Monday with additional details on the shooting.
