NEW CANEY, Texas -- Police in New Caney said a teen died overnight Thursday after his brother wrecked the car he just received as a Christmas gift.

Officials said the crash happened on FM-1485 near Loop 494 in New Caney.

It was raining when Ryan Hernandez, 19, lost control of his brother’s older model Maza convertible and skidded sideways into another car. Ryan was sent to the hospital in critical condition while his brother A.J., 18, was killed on impact.

The driver of the car that was hit was taken to the hospital to get checked out for chest pains.

Investigators said speeding along with weather was to blame for the crash.
