CHICAGO (AP) — The nephew of former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has pleaded not guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge in the 2004 death of a suburban man.

Richard Vanecko appeared in Cook County court on Monday for a brief hearing.

Last week, a grand jury indicted Vanecko in the death of 21-year-old David Koschman who died after the two fought outside a bar in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood.

The grand jury is still looking into whether authorities covered up or impeded the investigation because of Vanecko's family ties.

Former U.S. Attorney Dan Webb is special prosecutor in the case. He says the grand jury has reviewed thousands of documents and interviewed more than 50 witnesses.

Koschman's family contends there was a police cover-up and asked for a special prosecutor.
